Even in below freezing weather, snow on the roof will often thaw because of heat from the sun and heat loss from the house through the roof. As this melted snow reaches the roof overhang it refreezes.
Here there is no heat loss so the roof surface is much colder. As this melted snow refreezes again and again on the roof overhang, an ice dam is formed. Soon water backs up under
shingles, and leaks into the house. EASYHEAT ADKS roof de-icing cable prevents water and ice damage by providing a clear path for melting water. It keeps roof edges, gutters and downspouts ice-free.
Versatile design adapts to most roof and gutter configurations.
It's not those big icicles that do the real damage, it's
the ice you don't see that backs up in gutters and under shingles. When the
ice melts it can really do a number on repair costs. Easy Heat ADKS roof
de-icing cable prevents this water and ice damage by providing a clear path
for melting water to flow off the roof. The versatile design adapts to most
roof and gutter configurations.
- Easy to install
- Approved for metal and plastic gutters
- Complete with clips and spacers

ADKS-500 Cable (100 feet, 500 watts)
 |
This product is intended for the sole use of
preventing ice dams from forming on inclined roofs with tab shingles, in
gutters and downspouts. (Not for use on metal roofs because of the
risk of overheating, use self-regulating cable instead such as
PSR, or the Danfoss RX).
This roof de-icing cable is not intended for use
as a snow melting system to clear roof of ice and snow.
This system can be installed with confidence that it will operate
for years without requiring service. All components are made of the
highest quality material and are tested during critical points in the
manufacturing process. |

The cable should be installed over the
unheated portion of the roof (E in Fig. 1) - normally the roof area above the
overhang. To design how much cable is
needed, multiply the length of the roof edge that you want cable on by the following
spacing factor: |
| If your roof
overhang
is: |
Overhang
Multiplier: |

The overhang multiplier is the
length of cable required per foot of roof length. Note: Multiplier shown
includes 1 foot of gutter cable for each foot of roof edge. If cable is
not installed in gutter, subtract 1.0 from the overhang multiplier.

Cable Installation Patterns:

One cable may cover both roof and
gutter areas, or separate cables can be used. |
Add this number calculated
above to the length of the downspout. (A in Figure 2). Note: If a
downspout is located anywhere other than at the end of the cable routing, that
downspout will require double length of cable (B in Figure 2). Add extra
cable for valleys (6' per valley, C in Figure 2) and around dormers (D in Figure 2) Example: 28 feet of roof, 24" overhang
(therefore using overhang multiplier of 5.3), 1 downspout @ 10' at end of cable
run, 1 valley, 1 dormer with 30' perimeter.
Cable length = (28 x 5.3) + 10 + 6 + 30 =
194.4 feet. Select ADKS-1000 which is 200 feet since it is the closest to
194.4 feet. Excess cable can be used in the valley or downspout. The
de-icing cable cannot be cut or altered, doing so voids the warranty, and once
cut it cannot be repaired.

Optional RS-2 Roof Cable Deicing Control

Control expense and energy use in electric roof cable
protection automatically with Roof Sentry (RS-2). The RS-2 requires two
conditions to be present before it energizes roof deicing cable: cold
temperatures (ON, 38F; OFF, 48F) and the presence of
runoff water from the roof in contact with its sensor wire. If only one of the
conditions exists, the control will not energize the cable.
- 1200 Watt capacity at 120 VAC,
one per cable.
- State-of-the art electronic sensor.
- Weather resistant enclosure.
- Installs quickly and easily.
