This ensures that heat is only applied where it is needed and maximizes energy efficiency. All cables have a 6 foot cold lead (the 6 feet of cold lead is not part of the specified length of the cable - i.e. the 6 foot cable is 12 feet long total with 6 foot of heated cable.)

The self regulating feature will make sure it never gets too hot, while protecting your pipes, roofs and gutters from freezing and ice buildup. With self-regulating technology, no thermostat is required and you can overlap the cable without overheating worries. The cable varies its heat output in relation to the ambient temperature along the entire length of the cable. For installation on pipes, wrap the Ice Guard cable around the pipe or run it along the pipe length. Install insulation as the final step.
